CSE Undergraduate Wins Global HackerRank Orchestrate Hackathon

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Moratuwa, is proud to congratulate Mr. Saai Syvendra, an undergraduate student of the department, on securing first place at HackerRank Orchestrate, a global 24-hour agent-building hackathon that attracted participants from around the world.
Organised by HackerRank, the competition challenged participants to design and develop a terminal-based support triage agent capable of handling real-world support tickets from HackerRank, Claude, and Visa. Participants were then required to defend their solutions in a rigorous 30-minute AI-conducted technical interview. According to HackerRank, the competition attracted 12,885 registrations, with 2,002 participants successfully submitting agents and 1,349 advancing to the AI interview stage.

Demonstrating exceptional technical ability, creativity, and problem-solving skills, Saai emerged as the global champion, outperforming competitors from across the world. The top ten winners represented six countries: Sri Lanka, India, Argentina, the United States, Singapore, and Indonesia.
As part of the recognition, Saai was invited to India to receive his award at the HackerRank Innovator Awards, where he had the opportunity to engage with technology leaders and representatives from leading global organisations, including Google, Microsoft, Uber, and Goldman Sachs. The award was presented by Anand Gopal, Vice President of Product Management at HackerRank, and Juan Herrera, President and Chief Revenue Officer of HackerRank.

Reflecting on his achievement, Saai expressed gratitude to the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and the University of Moratuwa, noting that the strong technical foundations and problem-solving mindset developed through his studies played a significant role in his success.
This outstanding accomplishment showcases the talent and potential of University of Moratuwa students on the global stage and highlights the department’s continued commitment to nurturing world-class computing professionals and innovators.
The Department of Computer Science & Engineering congratulates Saai Syvendra on this remarkable achievement and wishes him continued success in his future endeavours.
